Meet Our President
Margaret Smith retired in May 2013, after 36 years of employment as a Human Resources professional in the Public Sector. Her career began in Los Angeles County in 1978 where she worked for over 10 years. She, along with her husband, Thurston (Smitty) and two sons, (Frank & Brandon), moved to the high desert in 1988. At that time, Smitty moved his business, Smitty’s Concrete Pumping, from Long Beach to Hesperia where his parents also lived. Shortly after moving to the High Desert, the City of Hesperia incorporated. Margaret began working for the City in October 1988. She was the 7th employee hired and the first employee hired to manage Human Resources for the City.She worked for the City of Hesperia, Human Resources for approximately 12 years. In February 2000, she left her position as the City’s Administrative Services Director, responsible for Human Resources & Risk Management, to work for the County of San Bernardino, Human Resources Department. She worked in various capacities of the County, serving as Human Resources Officer, Interim Human Resources Director, Interim Public Health Director and retiring as the County’s Human Resources Benefits Chief.During her career, she served on many high desert boards as a volunteer in various community service capacities, such as High Desert United Way, Victor Valley Business & Professional Women’s Organization, San Orco Regional Business & Professional Women’s Organization, Hesperia Rotary, and the Victor Valley Bicycle Tour. She has her Associate’s Degree from Victor Valley College and her Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Public Administration. Since retirement, Margaret and Smitty have traveled many thousands of miles in their motor home. Her passion since retirement is quilting and traveling
Meet Our Vice-president
Shannon Shannon was originally a native of New Mexico until 1985 when she moved to California. She has been married to her husband Rory Shannon for 30 years and has two children, Meagan and Christopher. Shannon and her husband enjoy hiking, camping and golfing and are very involved with their church. Shannon graduated from Cal State San Bernardino in 1994 with a Bachelors of Sciencein Accounting. She was hired, in her sophomore year by KPMG and then later workedfor James Quinn, Jr., CPA in the High Desert as a staff accountant/auditor. In addition,Shannon also holds a California State Brokers License, is federally and state licensed through the NMLS (Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System).In 2000, Shannon and her husband opened their own mortgage company, DirectorsResidential Lending and in 2006 they sold to American Home Mortgage where she ran American Home’s reverse mortgage operations “nationwide” with their retail sales force. In 2007, she joined Wells Fargo Home Mortgage where she worked as a reverse mortgage consultant and sales supervisor in the High Desert and IE, until 2011 when she was promoted to Branch Manager for the San Gabriel Valley Reverse Area. Shannon then worked with MetLife as a Reverse Branch Manager managing the largest area in Southern California and in…2012 she joined the Investment Bankers Network. This year will mark another change for Shannon as she has opened her own companySaddlerock Reverse Mortgage where she will continue to serve those needing reverse mortgages in the state of California. Locally, Shannon has been very active in the High Desert with various organizations over the years. She currently serves on three High Desert Boards, the HesperiaChamber of Commerce Executive Committee and Board of Directors, the Victor ValleyCollege Foundation as a Board member and on the Board of Governors at Spring ValleyLake Country Club as Vice-Chair. Shannon is looking forward to serving on the Today’s Woman Foundation Board and working with the other Directors to help meet the needs of the women of the High Desert community by providing relevant education and tools for transformation and growth.
Meet Our Executive Director
Cindy Bostick is a native of Southern California and grew up in the city of Compton, the oldest of five siblings. Her first career was in the defense industry where she worked as a finance manager within the controller’s organization at Raytheon Corporation in both El Segundo, Ca. and Tucson, Az. In 2001, Cindy and her husband moved to the High Desert area where she launched her real estate business. Her passion for providing professional and compassionate service extended to training and coaching other professionals both inside and outside of the real estate industry.
As a certified transformative coach and facilitator for the globally acclaimed Best Year Yet! system, and graduate of Supercoach Academy, Cindy deeply appreciates the need for personal growth in order to best serve others. She believes the growth journey doesn’t end until God calls us home, and she enjoys supporting others to help them fulfill their potential. Cindy’s Master of Science degree is in Human Behavior, and her Bachelor of Science degree is in Business Management.
The work of Today’s Woman Foundation as a non-profit began in 2004 with founders, Mary Grove, Lisa Price, and Anna Sugi. Cindy adds, “I am honored to work with a Board of beautiful, like-minded women who share the passion of our founders to empower our diverse community of women through education, advocacy, and resources to enhance body, mind, and spirit.”
